Planning - Ancillary Task 2 (37)

Image
For the research into my ancillary task I decided to ask a mix of both open and closed questions. I decided to do this as it meant that I could collect both quantitive and qualitative data which would aid me in the planning for what others feel should be on my poster. When doing the research I created an online survey with five closed questions about what people felt is important to include on a poster. With each question there were five answers which people could choose from ranging from 1 being not important and 5 being very important. By doing this type of research it gives me an easy way to analyse all the data due to it being quantifiable. Having the questions in the form of an online survey also meant that I was able to get quite a few responses as I was able to share it on different social media platforms for people to fill in. The only fallback to my survey is that I don't know what age the sample of people who answered the questions are. Due to this I am unable to det...

Planning - Ancillary Task 1 (36)

For the research into my ancillary task I decided to ask a mix of both open and closed questions. I decided to do this as it meant that I could collect both quantitive and qualitative data which would aid me in the planning for what others feel should be on my digipack. When doing the research I created an online survey with four closed questions about what people felt is important to include on a poster. With each question there were five answers which people could choose from ranging from 1 being not important and 5 being very important. By doing this type of research it gives me an easy way to analyse all the data due to it being quantifiable. Planning - Rehearsal Footage (35)

Image
I felt that the rehearsals for the music video went very well and afterwards the cast seemed to understand more about what I wanted from them for certain scenes and how I wanted them to portray certain emotions at certain points. The rehearsals gave my cast the chance to understand how I wanted them to portray the characters and also how they should act together. Because my video is meant to be very emotional, the atmosphere of the video depends on how well my cast can portray a close father and daughter relationship and how devastating it is when the father finds out his daughter is dead.                                                            Photo from Thetford forest By rehearsing the scene at Thetford forest I was able to find the most aesthetic and scenic routes to film my cast for the music video. It also helped my cast t...

Planning - Directing Style (34)

Image
In my music video I am uncertain on what particular directing style I will use when filming, however in my video I do plan on using certain techniques to help portray my narrative. The most important technique will be using flashbacks which help to illustrate to the viewer the relationship between the father and daughter. It is very important therefore that when filming I am able to get across to the viewer that certain scenes are flashbacks and are not part of the regular narrative. I also wish to use lots of close ups and extreme close ups in my video to get across the detail and emotion of the video to the viewers. This again is another important aspect of my video as I feel that these shots are crucial in creating a cathartic music video. Edgar Wright  Edgar Wright is a British director, screenwriter, producer and actor. In his films he tends to move at a fast pace and his method of using quick montages helps to do this. This technique often shows characters doing ...

Planning - Editing (33)

Image
In my music video I plan to have quite a bit of editing applied to my video. The most significant bit of editing will be adding the filter to all the memory/flashback scenes to make them look like memories/flashbacks to the audience. I also plan to use cuts, fades, quick montage and a mix of long and short takes in my music video. All these different editing techniques I feel will help bring my narrative together and help me to create the emotional video I am trying to construct. 1 - Location at the beach (establishing shot in a long take.) This will have the title fade in then out before cutting to the next shot. 2 - Father and daughter walking along the beach (Close up, mid shots and tracking shots.) A mix of long and short takes will be used here to help show the calm atmosphere and the emotion on the characters faces. A lot of cuts will occur during this scene before cutting to the next section. 3 - Rock pooling ( close up, extreme close up, mid shot and wide shot...

Planning Sound (32)

Image
D iegetic sound is sound in which the source is visible on screen or shown to be present by the action of the film. This can be through voices of characters or sounds made by objects in the film.  In my music video I don't plan on using any diegetic sound as I want the focus of my video to be on the connection between the song and its lyrics to the narrative of my video. I don't plan to include any dialogue in my video which would rule out the use of diegetic sounds from the character and I feel any diegetic sound from the locations would just break apart the narrative. However I do feel there are two places in which diegetic sound could be appropriate and therefore when I edit my music video I may play about and see if the diegetic sound fits there. The first place would be at the very beginning of the music video where I will display the title. Here I will have an establishing shot of the beach as that'll be my very first location. I could include diegetic sound of ...

Planning - Props (30)

Image
For my music video there are many props that I will require in order to set the right atmosphere for my narrative. Most of the objects I need I will be able to find either in my house or I will be able to borrow them from friends. There are a few things however which I will need to buy as they aren't things which can be easily made at home. The props I will need are: A phone Photographs A raft A tea-light Rings/bracelets Sparklers Rabbits Dogs Police badge Camera Paper boats Key: Purple   - Things I have/can borrow from friends  Yellow - Things I will have to make/create Green   - Things I will have to buy Purple   - Things I have/can borrow from friends  The phone, tea-light, jewellery, rabbits, dogs and camera I will be able to provide, borrow from friends for my filming. Only two of these props I will have to borrow from people and that is the phone and the dogs. I will have Lucy who will play the daughter in ...

Planning - Costume and Make-up (29)

Image
In my music video I don't plan on including any extravagant costumes or make up as I want the video to look realistic to today's society. This involves having my characters wearing typical costumes for their roles (detective police officer, father, teenage daughter) that are also relevant to today's society. The character of the daughter is the only character which will be seen wearing make up. As girls typically wear make up in today's society, I feel that it is important for the daughter to be seen wearing make up which will consist of a natural look that will be very subtle.  Alec Stark's (father) costume For the fathers costume I am planning on having autumnal clothes which illustrate the fact that it is autumn/winter and also because I think that it is more homely/domestic, which is the feeling I want to create between the characters of the father and daughter. To construct this look I wish to use casual winter clothing like scarfs, coats, jumpers, gloves, ...
