Planning - Ancillary Task 2 (37)

For the research into my ancillary task I decided to ask a mix of both open and closed questions. I decided to do this as it meant that I could collect both quantitive and qualitative data which would aid me in the planning for what others feel should be on my poster. When doing the research I created an online survey with five closed questions about what people felt is important to include on a poster. With each question there were five answers which people could choose from ranging from 1 being not important and 5 being very important. By doing this type of research it gives me an easy way to analyse all the data due to it being quantifiable. Having the questions in the form of an online survey also meant that I was able to get quite a few responses as I was able to share it on different social media platforms for people to fill in. The only fallback to my survey is that I don't know what age the sample of people who answered the questions are. Due to this I am unable to determine if these answers are from the age range I wish to target my music video and ancillary tasks to. Having said this, I am able to make an educated guess as to the approximate age range of people answering this survey as the majority of people on social media are teens and young adult. Also the people that follow my accounts in which I shared the survey are mostly the same age as me which would imply that most of the people answering these questions are the age I wish to target my products at. If I were to do this sort of survey again however I would most likely add a question that asked what age people were so they I would have a clearer idea as to who was answering the questions.

How important is a poster to you deciding whether to buy a CD?

From this research we can see that the poster doesn't tend to affect peoples decision much for buying a CD. The majority of people were neutral over its importance however a lot of people still felt that it was quite important in deciding whether they bought a CD or not.

How important is it for the band/artist to be on the poster?

We can see from this data the people are quite neutral on whether the band/artist should be on the poster or not. I guess it is down to personal choice and the type of artist it is whether they feature on the poster. Many soloists often feature on the poster whereas bands often have an artistic image or symbol.
How important is it that there is a common theme across the poster and CD cover?

Most people felt that is was quite or very important for there to be a common theme across the poster and CD with only a few thinking that is was only a little important. Because of this I will most likely include a common theme between the two ancillary tasks as that seems to be the general consensus of what should occur. It also in general seems more logical for there to be a connection between the two products as they are both representing the same album and artist.
Is the choice of font and text colour important?

Again most people felt that the choice of font and text colour was either quite important or very important. This is understandable as you would want the poster to be aesthetic to look at as well as legible to read and understand.

How important is it to see a quote and/or star rating on the poster?

For this question most people felt neutral about if there should be a quote or star rating although an equal amount felt that it wasn't important, it was a little important and that it was quite important. Because of this conflicted opinion I will probably look at other posters and see what they tend to include. I feel though that if I do include this, my target audience wont be displeased as it will be unobtrusive on the poster.
Below is the research video asking three people between the ages or 17 and 21 open ended questions about music posters. By asking these types of questions I was able to collect more valid data and understand why people like certain things to be on a poster and other things not to.
