Planning - Costume and Make-up (29)

In my music video I don't plan on including any extravagant costumes or make up as I want the video to look realistic to today's society. This involves having my characters wearing typical costumes for their roles (detective police officer, father, teenage daughter) that are also relevant to today's society. The character of the daughter is the only character which will be seen wearing make up. As girls typically wear make up in today's society, I feel that it is important for the daughter to be seen wearing make up which will consist of a natural look that will be very subtle. 

 Alec Stark's (father) costume

 For the fathers costume I am planning on having autumnal clothes which illustrate the fact that it is autumn/winter and also because I think that it is more homely/domestic, which is the feeling I want to create between the characters of the father and daughter. To construct this look I wish to use casual winter clothing like scarfs, coats, jumpers, gloves, dark jeans and boots. I also plan on having the clothing consist of earthy colours like maroon, green, brown, black, grey and navy. These colours I believe will help represent the fact that it is autumn as well as help to create that domestic family atmosphere around the character. 

 Clothing needed
  • Dark jeans (grey or black)
  • Trench coat (navy or light brown)
  • Jumpers (numerous in different colours)
  • Scarf (grey or dark blue)
  • Boots 
  • Button up shirts
  • Watch 
  • Wedding ring

 Morana Stark's (daughter) costume

 For the daughters costume I am planning on having autumnal cloths which illustrate the fact that it is autumn/winter.  To construct this look I wish to use casual winter clothing like scarfs, coats, jumpers, gloves, dark jeans, skirts and boots as well as some accessories. I also plan on having the clothing consist of autumnal colours like maroon, yellow, orange and brown as well as earthy colours like green, blue, black and grey. These colours will help illustrate the fact that it is autumn to the viewer as well as showing this character bright personality through bright colour clothing she wears.   

 Clothing needed
  • Dark jeans (black or blue)
  • Skirt
  • Jumpers (bright colours)
  • Scarf (burgundy)
  • Boots 
  • Watch
  • Bracelets
  • Necklace 
  • Beanie
  • Fingerless gloves  
  • Coat (green)

 Anne Rogers (detective) costume


 For the detectives costume I plan to have them wear smart casual clothing. Detectives in society don't actually have a formal uniform and instead just dress smartly, often wearing a long trench coat. For this reason I will be having the detective in my video dress smartly in a button up white shirt, smart black trousers and a long dark trench coat. This I feel will emphasis the fact that this character has
an important job and give an air of authority and seriousness around the character.

  • Smart white shirt/blouse 
  • Long trench coat (black or beige)
  • Black trousers/skirt 
  • Smart shoes 
  • Police badge 
  • Police ID

What are you trying to find out in your research? In my research I am trying to discover many things which will help me in developing my A2 coursework. The main thing I am trying to discover is whether people still consume music videos and what the age range is of people who consume them. I am also trying to discover what other media products people consume and if they think that my idea for a music video is a good one or if i should change elements of it.  When conducting my research I went out into Wymondham town to ask people the questions as apposed to just asking people in the sixth-from. There are many strengths to doing this, the main being that it gives me more reliable data. In the sixth-form there are only students and teacher so just asking them my research questions limits the demographic response of my data to just students and teachers. Me and Rosie were randomly given a question and a nursery rhyme which we could use as a stimulus to create our music video. The question we were given was Should I get a tattoo? and the nursery rhyme we were given was Jack and Jill . These were the two points that we could use to help create a music video, and we could choose to incorporate either both or one into our video. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? In my personal opinion I feel that the combination between my video and ancillary tasks are very effective. Within all three of the products I incorporated the same photographs so that the synergy between the products were clear. One of the main elements of my music video was the father looking back at the good memories with his daughter through photographs which were hanging up in her room. Because of how important the photos were in the video I felt that it was vital to incorporate them into the ancillary tasks as well. Typically within solo music videos the focus is on the artist and this is then incorporated onto the cover of the digipack and album release poster too.
