Practise task explained (1)
Me and Rosie were randomly given a question and a nursery rhyme which we could use as a stimulus to create our music video. The question we were given was Should I get a tattoo? and the nursery rhyme we were given was Jack and Jill. These were the two points that we could use to help create a music video, and we could choose to incorporate either both or one into our video.
Our initial ideas for this task is to use the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill as a stimulus for our music video as there seems to be more directions we could go with this than with the question Should I get a tattoo?
Jack and Jill lyrics
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got Jack, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.
After looking up the complete lyrics for the nursery rhyme i decided to do some research into the meaning behind it to see if it would give us anymore ideas for our music video.
When looking into the meaning behind the nursery rhyme I found that there was much debate about the meaning behind it. One interpretation of the rhyme was that it was about King Louis 16th who was beheaded. People believe that Jack is meant to be King Louis who 'broke his crown' by being beheaded and his wife Queen Marie Antoinette is Jill who 'came tumbling after'.
Another interpretation of the rhyme is that Jack refers to a half pint and Jill is a gill which is a quarter pint measure. In the 17th century King Charles 1 wanted to reform taxes on liquid measures but was refused by parliament. Being crafty he decided to decree a down size instead to make more money.
One final interpretation that we found out about the nursery rhyme was that is was about a man having an affair and when the girl gets pregnant he kills himself and after giving birth the girl kills herself too.
These different interpretations have helped us to think about connection we could make between the nursery rhyme in our music video. Both the first interpretations are about greed which could be one direction we go about creating the music video, while the last is about cheating which could be another idea for the music video.
Ideas
- A guy bumps his head at the beginning of the video and than for the duration of the video you see him in a dream state and then at the end you find out that he bumped his head on a hill and everything we just witnessed wasn't real.
- Another idea we had was to have two lovers and they would be seen doing romantic activities together and then Jacks wife would find out and the kill both Jack and his lover by drowning then in a well.
