Difficulties with using lip syncing 

 These are student made music videos which use lip-syncing in the majority of the video as well as a narrative. Problems which can occur when using lip-syncing in music videos is that the syncing may not be in time with the song. If this occurs it can make it very difficult during the editing process to get it back in time with the song. If the video has both narrative and lip-sync then it makes it easier to cover this up, but if the whole video is lip-sync then it can be harder. Another problem which can occur with lip-syncing is that the singers doesn't really show much emotion in their face or enunciate what they are singing which can make it seem like they are mumbling and not actually singing the song. When you have someone lip-sync you want them to almost be over the top so you it seems like they are actually singing the lyrics rather than just mumbling.

Good/Bad - I really liked this video and I thought that the use of lip syncing worked really well with the video as a whole. I thought that there was a good balance of narrative and lip-sync which meant the video flowed well together. The lip-sync used was also well edited with the song and you can tell what the 'singer' is singing the lyrics and not mumbling. I also liked how most of the shots used were close ups which really engaged the viewer into the action which was taking place and make the shots seem really cinematic and delicate.

Good/Bad - I didn't really like this music video very much and I felt that the lip-syncing coming from the none band members was a bit forced, which you can tell when you see two of the cast burst into laughter after lip-syncing. I felt there was a good balance of lip-syncing and narrative in the video and I liked how you could see the whole bad at various points rather than just the singer. 

Lip-syncing is definitely something I would consider using in my A2 coursework if I chose to do a music video. I feel that when used well, lip-sync can be really effective in a music video and can help break down the narrative so scenes of the band/singer can be seen. I would definitely use a mix of narrative and lip-syncing in a music video if i were as i feel that they work well together and help to create suspense and tension in the video.

What are you trying to find out in your research? In my research I am trying to discover many things which will help me in developing my A2 coursework. The main thing I am trying to discover is whether people still consume music videos and what the age range is of people who consume them. I am also trying to discover what other media products people consume and if they think that my idea for a music video is a good one or if i should change elements of it.  When conducting my research I went out into Wymondham town to ask people the questions as apposed to just asking people in the sixth-from. There are many strengths to doing this, the main being that it gives me more reliable data. Me and Rosie were randomly given a question and a nursery rhyme which we could use as a stimulus to create our music video. The question we were given was Should I get a tattoo? and the nursery rhyme we were given was Jack and Jill . These were the two points that we could use to help create a music video, and we could choose to incorporate either both or one into our video. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? In my personal opinion I feel that the combination between my video and ancillary tasks are very effective. Within all three of the products I incorporated the same photographs so that the synergy between the products were clear. One of the main elements of my music video was the father looking back at the good memories with his daughter through photographs which were hanging up in her room. Because of how important the photos were in the video I felt that it was vital to incorporate them into the ancillary tasks as well. Typically within solo music videos the focus is on the artist and this is then incorporated onto the cover of the digipack and album release poster too.
