Final - Idea based on all planning (39)

Based on all the research and planning posts what is your final idea for a music video?

After doing all my research and planning I have decided against going with my first idea for a music video, which was to do a video for the song Nightmares by the band All Time Low. My original idea was to have a young man go into a abandoned house after being dared to spend the night there after being dared to by his mates. He would walk around the house when he hears a noise and we would see him running away in fear. As he turns the corner he (through editing and cutting away) transitions into a young boy (10 - 12 years old). We see the boy exploring the house and hiding every time he hears a noise/sees something and acting like a frightened child. The boy is then seen running into the drawing room when he sees a teenage girl dressed in white in the centre of the room (A ghost in a white dress wearing ballet shoes). She stretches out her hand to the boy who tentatively takes it. She makes the boy realise that the house isn't that scary anymore and again (through editing and cutting away) we see him turn back into his adult self. When the song is coming to the end we see him head to the door and right before he leaves we see him turn back in time to see the girl disappear. After doing my research I found that there weren't any suitable places which I could film my idea as most were either unaccessible or too dangerous to film in. I also had trouble finding the right cast as most of the people I thought could play the roles either didn't look old enough or weren't very good at acting.

Due to my first idea not working out I decided to go with my second idea which was to do a video for the song Losing your memory by Ryan Star. A single father and his teenage daughter will be shown having gone out one afternoon to the beach in autumn. When they return home though the daughter decides to go out for a walk but she doesn't return that night. The next morning the police come by and inform the father how his daughter had died after being hit by a car which causes the father to go into a depressive spiral. That night he decides to go into his daughters room for the first time since he found out she was dead. As he enters we see him looking at his daughters possession, all the things she will never use, never touch again. While looking around the room he moves towards the bed and looks at all the photos that she has hanging on her wall. Pictures of his daughter with friends and pictures of his daughter with himself. As he looks through them you see flash backs to memories (Memories of them going to Thetford forest, walking the dog, playing with the rabbits, watching fireworks and messing about with sparklers, carving pumpkins and opening presents at Christmas.) He then starts to go through the new photos which his daughter had printed out and placed on her desk ready to hang up. As he goes through the countless photos of his daughter with her friends he comes across the last photo which was from when they went to the beach, the same day she had died after being hit by a car. After seeing the photo the dad becomes angry and starts to trash his daughters bedroom (ripping the photos off the walls, throwing the objects on her desk on to the floor and even throwing a few ornaments across the room, shattering as they hit the wall) He then breaks down sitting on the edge of the bed just staring at the photo, the last photo of him and his daughter together before everything went wrong. The father is then seen putting the photo in his jacket before heading across the room and picking a few of his daughters possessions up and putting them in his pocket as well before heading out to the beach. At the beach the father is shown collecting pieces of wood and tying them together to create a small raft. Using the photo of himself with his daughter as the sail, the father finishes building the raft before placing a few of his daughters possessions on it. He then places a little tea light on the raft before wading into the water to set the little boat free as a final goodbye to his daughter.

I felt that this idea would be a lot easier for me to complete while working alone and it is a lot easier for me to find the locations appropriate than it was for my first idea. I also found it a lot easier to find the appropriate cast as I only need three people for this idea as opposed to the group of ten or fifth-teen people I would need for my first idea. I also felt that this idea would provoke more emotion from the audience and make then feel moved after watching it which is the type of reaction I wanted to create.
