News story - Gay marriage legalised in Germany.


This is the news story I decided to pick to plan a music video around. I chose it due to it being one of the more positive stories I came across when searching for one. I also felt the story opened endless possibilities for a music video all depending on what song was chosen, for example a song like Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson could offer an optimistic music video. Flash backs of an individuals past could be shown of how they tried to fit in and conceal their sexuality from the world. As the song would progress you could see that individual becoming more confident and showing the world who they really were. As you reach the end of the song, the individual would be seen standing at the end of the isle waiting for their partner to walk down it.

Although Breakaway could be a good song to use I feel that A Thousand Years by Christina Perri would be a better fit. I feel that the pace of the song along with the emotional lyrics would fit in well with the story I came up with for a music video based on the news article. The lyrics obviously cover the topic of love and how the an individual is so overcome by this emotion that they'll wait as long as it takes to be with their lover. It shows how someone is willing to do anything just to be with their lover, which I feel fits perfectly with the article I chose. The lyric "How can I love when I'm afraid to fall" would fit in with a gay couple being afraid of being together due to the risk of their family and friends finding out. The risk of people discriminating them due to their sexuality and the fear of peoples reactions for who they are. "I have died everyday waiting for you" would fit in with them finally meeting each other and realising they were meant to be together, knowing they weren't alone and never needed to fear anything ever again. It could also fit in with the couple waiting for the day that gay marriage is legalised so they can finally be together through marriage and been seen as equals to other couples.

What are you trying to find out in your research? In my research I am trying to discover many things which will help me in developing my A2 coursework. The main thing I am trying to discover is whether people still consume music videos and what the age range is of people who consume them. I am also trying to discover what other media products people consume and if they think that my idea for a music video is a good one or if i should change elements of it.  When conducting my research I went out into Wymondham town to ask people the questions as apposed to just asking people in the sixth-from. There are many strengths to doing this, the main being that it gives me more reliable data. In the sixth-form there are only students and teacher so just asking them my research questions limits the demographic response of my data to just students and teachers. Me and Rosie were randomly given a question and a nursery rhyme which we could use as a stimulus to create our music video. The question we were given was Should I get a tattoo? and the nursery rhyme we were given was Jack and Jill . These were the two points that we could use to help create a music video, and we could choose to incorporate either both or one into our video. Our initial ideas for this task is to use the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill as a stimulus for our music video as there seems to be more directions we could go with this than with the question Should I get a tattoo ?  Jack and Jill lyrics   J ack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water Jack fell down and broke his crown And Jill came tumbling after. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? In my personal opinion I feel that the combination between my video and ancillary tasks are very effective. Within all three of the products I incorporated the same photographs so that the synergy between the products were clear. One of the main elements of my music video was the father looking back at the good memories with his daughter through photographs which were hanging up in her room. Because of how important the photos were in the video I felt that it was vital to incorporate them into the ancillary tasks as well. Typically within solo music videos the focus is on the artist and this is then incorporated onto the cover of the digipack and album release poster too. However, due to me challenging this typical convention I had to use a different theme to link all my products together to create synergy, which is where the link between the photographs came in.
