My documentary video about David Wilson

Planning and research for my documentary about David Wilson
David Wilson is a London based director and animator. He is most well known for his music videos, having created videos for artists like David Guatta, the Arctic Monkeys and The Maccabees. He takes enjoyment from crossing disciplines between animation and live action, often combining the two to create something unique. 

Wilson studied illustration at Brighton University which has helped him in his career of becoming a unique music video director. He studied illustration as apposed to film as he never believed that becoming a film director was possible. As accessibility to cameras and youtube came about however, Wilson started to upload his videos to youtube and they started to gain recognition. 

This is a video I found about David Wilson and his career. This helped me find out more about the director and his style with videos.

 My opinion 
These are a few of the music video which David Wilson has produced and directed. We can clearly see his unique and distinctive style throughout each video. I personal find his style very interesting and effective, the use of combining animation and live action creates a very unique and mesmerising video. This can be see in his video "Out Of The Black" by Royal Blood. This video effortlessly combines live action and animation to create an astonishing video. I personally find his video "We Got Time" by Moray McLaren to be one of the best he has created. It is so individual and I have never seen anything like it before. The idea itself is very creative with the use of mirrors to show a story. The concept is so simple but the brilliant execution of the video with the use of low lighting so the focus is on the illustrations and the deliberate slow camera movements help to create this masterpiece.

    This is a great video Katherine. I didn't know that much about David Wilson beforehand. You have clearly demonstrated excellent research into him as a director and presenting it in an excellent way. Great editing, narration, use of relevant video and clearly you have understood the task and presented an informative docu-style film.

Me and Rosie were randomly given a question and a nursery rhyme which we could use as a stimulus to create our music video. The question we were given was Should I get a tattoo? and the nursery rhyme we were given was Jack and Jill . These were the two points that we could use to help create a music video, and we could choose to incorporate either both or one into our video. Our initial ideas for this task is to use the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill as a stimulus for our music video as there seems to be more directions we could go with this than with the question Should I get a tattoo ?  Jack and Jill lyrics   J ack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water Jack fell down and broke his crown And Jill came tumbling after. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? In my personal opinion I feel that the combination between my video and ancillary tasks are very effective. Within all three of the products I incorporated the same photographs so that the synergy between the products were clear. One of the main elements of my music video was the father looking back at the good memories with his daughter through photographs which were hanging up in her room. Because of how important the photos were in the video I felt that it was vital to incorporate them into the ancillary tasks as well. Typically within solo music videos the focus is on the artist and this is then incorporated onto the cover of the digipack and album release poster too. However, due to me challenging this typical convention I had to use a different theme to link all my products together to create synergy, which is where the link between the photographs came in.
