Ancillary task 2 (17)



One the left is the album cover that we were given to recreate for our second ancillary task, and on the right is our recreation of it. For our recreation we used my friend Megan as our model. She has relatively dark hair which is similar to what is on the album cover and was also free during the time we need to do this. To recreate the cover we used fake blood, eye liner and lip stick to create the blood dripping from the face and chin. We also had our model wear a plain black top so that she didn't get blood on her sixth form uniform and also so it fitted with the cover.


This is a picture of me putting the fake blood on our model ready for the photo. We used tissues to dab on the blood over the general areas (lower face and neck) and then dribbled some down her chin to give it the effect that it was running down her face from her nose. We used this as a base for the blood as we planned on editing it to make it look more realistic on photoshop.


As I have never used photoshop before I got my friend, Milly to give me a hand. Together we managed to edit my model to make the blood on her face look more realistic and stand out more. We also managed to put my model onto a black background and add the title from the original album cover onto my album cover.

    Great documentation of the process which you clearly enjoyed and completed in an excellent way. Can you please tell me, when it comes to your own ancillary task.... at this stage would you be thinking of using an original image of a person or a piece of artwork?

What are you trying to find out in your research? In my research I am trying to discover many things which will help me in developing my A2 coursework. The main thing I am trying to discover is whether people still consume music videos and what the age range is of people who consume them. I am also trying to discover what other media products people consume and if they think that my idea for a music video is a good one or if i should change elements of it.  When conducting my research I went out into Wymondham town to ask people the questions as apposed to just asking people in the sixth-from. Me and Rosie were randomly given a question and a nursery rhyme which we could use as a stimulus to create our music video. The question we were given was Should I get a tattoo? and the nursery rhyme we were given was Jack and Jill . These were the two points that we could use to help create a music video, and we could choose to incorporate either both or one into our video. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? In my personal opinion I feel that the combination between my video and ancillary tasks are very effective. Within all three of the products I incorporated the same photographs so that the synergy between the products were clear. One of the main elements of my music video was the father looking back at the good memories with his daughter through photographs which were hanging up in her room. Because of how important the photos were in the video I felt that it was vital to incorporate them into the ancillary tasks as well. Typically within solo music videos the focus is on the artist and this is then incorporated onto the cover of the digipack and album release poster too. However, due to me challenging this typical convention I had to use a different theme to link all my products together to create synergy, which is where the link between the photographs came in.
